The site has been made suitable for public visit either with or without the services of guides provided by the Cenobio.

The site is reached via the Cuesta de Silva turn-off (GC-291) and is duly sign-posted.

Parking:

Cars may be parked in the area provided on the road in front of the entrance.

Reception:

Tickets are on sale here and leaflets about the site are available. Reception staff will be pleased to offer any other information you may require.

Access to the caves:

A series of steps lead uphill from the gate to the entrance to the grain store.

The path is fairly steep but there are resting points provided with benches where the visitor may pause and enjoy magnificent views over the valley and the spectacular north coast.

Information panels:

To make visits as interesting and informative as possible, notice boards and similar resources have been placed along the route. These provide information about the history of the site, features of the immediate surroundings, the diversity of plants and animals to be found and geological features of the landscape.

Guided visits:

Specially trained guides are available to provide guided tours for groups. Such visits are restricted to certain times and must be arranged in advance. (See General information).

Shop:

Souvenirs are on sale in the shop in the reception area, as well as products such as homemade cakes and biscuits typical of Santa María de Guía. Gofio, which was part of the staple diet of the ancient Canarians and was made from grain kept in silos such as the one here, may be obtained. Books related to archaeology and the history of Gran Canaria are also on sale.

Toilets:

Due to its location, Cenobio de Valerón is not connected to sewage mains and therefore there are no toilets. However, visitors may use the facilities in “Restaurant- Grill Noroeste”, which is less than 2 minutes away by car on the road to Santa María de Guía. The restaurant has an extensive menu and visitors may like to try some of the island’s typical dishes.
